William Wade “Billy” Murray, 78, of Moncks Corner, husband of Kay Rhinehart Murray, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021. After a long, courageous battle with unrelenting illnesses, he is now resting in peace. Billy was born July 21, 1943, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, son of Alva Murray and Susie Eadie Murray.
After graduating Berkeley High School, Mr. Murray served in the U.S. Air Force, as a Sergeant in the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from The Citadel and later went on to become the Vice President of Engineering for Berkeley Electric Cooperative, where he worked for 38 years. He was one of the original founders of the Engineering Association of SC Electric Cooperatives, and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Association and the Sertoma Club. He was a lifelong member of Moncks Corner United Methodist Church.
In 1975, he married the love of his life, Kay Rhinehart, and they raised three children together. They enjoyed playing cards and games with friends and family. He enjoyed time spent working in his yard and doting on his two dachshunds, Missy and Tootie. Billy was a loving son, husband, father, and Papa, and was very proud of his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son- Gene Cameron and his wife, Kerri of Lugoff, SC; two daughters- Kristi Brickles and her husband, Pete of Moncks Corner; Billie Jean Murray and her husband, Bryan Crable of Philadelphia, PA; five grandchildren- Eryn Cameron; William Cameron; Daney Brickles; Payne Brickles; Evan Murray; a brother- Gerald A. Murray and his wife Charlotte of Charleston, SC; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his sister, Betty Jean Thompson of Austin, TX.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lake Moultrie Nursing Home, Dr. Samuel Adams, and their kind and generous neighbors.
His memorial service will be held at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, November 21, 2021. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lake Moultrie Nursing Home or Moncks Corner United Methodist Church.
