William Lincoln Shipley Sr.

October 14, 1926 — August 26, 2009

William Lincoln Shipley, Sr., 82, of Moncks Corner, an attorney, and husband of Lavinia (Lou) H.
Shipley, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at his residence.


Mr. Shipley was born October 14, 1926, in Moncks Corner, S.C., a son of the late Charles
Frederick Lincoln Shipley, Sr., and Christine Dennis Shipley.


He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1951 and began
practicing law in Berkeley County that same year, continuing his practice until 2009. He
was Master in Equity for Berkeley County from 1960 until 1992.


Mr. Shipley was a member and past president of the Moncks Corner Jaycees; Moncks Corner
Rotary Club; and past president of the Berkeley County Bar Association. He was an avid
golfer and a charter member of Berkeley Country Club, serving as its attorney for many years.


Mr. Shipley was a World War II Veteran, serving in the United States Air Force. He was an
active member of the American Legion for 59 years and past Post Commander of
Berkeley Post 126 of Moncks Corner. He served as State Judge Advocate of the American
Legion for 25 years. He was a member of the 40 & 8 of the American Legion and a
member of the VFW and DAV.


Mr. Shipley was an active member of the Moncks Corner United Methodist Church since 1951
and served as past Chairman of the Board of Stewards.


Mr. Shipley is survived by his wife, Lavinia (Lou) Hubbard Shipley and their children - Gwendolyn
Shipley Cammons and her husband, James, of Goose Creek; William L. Shipley, Jr., and his
wife, Ann, of Pinopolis; Robert Walton Shipley of Goose Creek; Brian L. Shipley and his wife,
Marla, of Moncks Corner; their grandhildren - James Ellis Cammons, Jr., and his wife, Carrie;
Suzanne Shipley Gabriel and her husband, Jason; Ryan Walton Shipley; Joshua Evan Shipley;
Lauren Elizabeth Shipley and Brianne Elizabeth Shipley; their great grandchildren - Atley Hunter
Gabriel and Landon Ellis Cammons, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Shipley is
also survived by his daughter, Amy Christine Bishop and her husband, Dennis. Mr. Shipley was
predeceased by his sister Evelyn Shipley Smith and his brothers, Charles F. Shipley, Jr., and
George W. Shipley.


Funeral services for Mr. Shipley will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 29, at the Moncks
Corner United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Biggin Cemetery, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL
CHAPEL. Friends may call at Russell Funeral Chapel on Friday evening, August 28, between the
hours of 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
