Walter Mcgregor Dennis, Jr.

Walter McGregor Dennis, 95, of Moncks Corner, passed away Saturday evening, March 16, 2013.

He was born February 4, 1918, in Berkeley County, a son of Walter M. Dennis, Sr. and Belle Thornley Dennis.

During the time that he attended Berkeley High School, he played football and basketball in 1936 and 1937. Then in 1938 he worked
as a clerk in the community warehouse; in 1939 thru 1940 he worked on the construction of the Santee Cooper Powerhouse. After this, he worked for the Charleston Naval Shipyard where he was transferred to the Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, as a sheetmetal worker/machine operator for 22 months. In 1953 he leased Thornley Beach (known today as Lion's Beach) for 8 years. In 1958-1966, he built, owned and operated Dennis Skating Rink. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and being around family and friends. He was a lifelong member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters - Linda D. Brunson and Miriam "Darlene" Mixson and her husband, Larry; a son - Walter M. Dennis III; daughter-in-law, Beth Kessler; 8 grandchildren - Robert S. Brunson; Roger D. Dennis, Jr and his wife, April; Demetras Mizzell; Lisa Clark and her husband, Ronnie; Stephen Kessler; Brian Dennis; George K. Dennis and his wife, Misty; and Trebor Keffer and her husband, Lee; 18 great grandchildren - Chevy Dennis; Gavin Genthart; Savannah Mizzell; Harley Dennis; Cassi Clark; Carson Brunson; Charity Dennis; Cade Brunson; Braylin Clark; Hope Dennis; Carley Dennis Braddock Keffer; Trenton Keffer; Drake Dennis; Hayden Dennis; Elliott Dennis; Kessler Dennis; and Lofton Shuler; a brother - George B. Dennis; two sisters - Annabelle Creech and Dolly Jean Wells. He was predeceased by his son - Roger Dale Dennis, Sr; a grandchild - Woodrow Seth Mizzell; brothers - Sidney, Robert, Mike, Frank, Lamar, Blease and Billy Dennis; sisters - Cathleen Martin; Adelaide Greene and Marguerite Price.

His funeral service will be held at Rehoboth United Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon, March 20, 2013, at 2 o'clock. Interment will follow in the church cemetery directed by Russell Funeral Chapel, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at Russell Funeral Chapel Tuesday evening, March 19, between 6 and 8 o'clock.
