Virginia Spell Umphlett, 85, of Moncks Corner, widow of Clyde D. Umphlett, Sr., passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Umphlett was born January 23, 1927, in Summerville, the daughter of Theodore B. Spell and Ada Reynolds Spell.
A 1942 graduate of Summerville High School and a 1944 graduate of Coker College, she was a retired bookkeeper for Umphlett Lumber Company. She was a charter member of First Christian Church of Moncks Corner and a member of the 30th Infantry Division Auxillary.
Surviving are four daughters – Anne U. Keys, Carolyn U. Ware, Susan U. Landes and Michal U. Lance, all of Moncks Corner; daughter-in-law , Carolyn M. Umphlett of Moncks Corner; son-in-law, Danny Beckham of Moncks Corner; aunt – Reba R. Courtney of Aiken; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son – C. David Umphlett, Jr.;two brothers – Walter T. Spell and Frank P. Spell and a sister – Mary S. Keels.
The family wishes to express special thanks to caregivers, Bobbie Cannon, Bertha Lee Bostic, and to Hospice of Charleston for the loving care that they gave to her.
Her funeral service will be held in First Christian Church of Moncks Corner, Friday morning,
May 25, 2012, at 11 o’clock. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
