Ruth Moore Parker

December 14, 1927 — July 24, 2013

Ruth Moore Parker, 85, of Ladson, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, widow of Ralph Elliott Parker, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at her home.

She was born December 14, 1927, at Alvin, the daughter of Gilbert Benjamin Moore and Lessie Lee Rogers Moore.

Mrs. Parker was a graduate of Macedonia High School where she played basketball. A former member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant and presently a member of Providence Baptist Church, she had been a member of the choir and very involved in activities in both churches. She had retired from the Data Processing Division of the Charleston Naval Shipyard. She enjoyed numerous other activities, having served as President of the PTA; leader in the Civil Air Patrol; Girl Scout leader; and past president of East Cooper Hospital volunteers where she was the recipient of "Volunteer of The Year" award in 1994.

Surviving are four daughters - Janice Gleaton and her husband, Beverly, of Pinopolis; Judy Gilliam of Ladson; Susie Paxton and her husband, Steve, of Goose Creek; and Beverly Baturin and her husband, Dickie Koster, of Ravenel; a son - Retired Brigadier General Ralph E. "Chip" Parker, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Henderson NV; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons - Gilbert Ellis Parker and John David Parker.

Her funeral service will be held at Providence Baptist Church Saturday morning, July 27, 2013, at 11 o'clock. Interment will follow in Thornley Cemetery, directed by Russell Funeral Chapel, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at Russell Funeral Chapel Friday evening, July 26, 2013, between 6 and 8 o'clock.
