Robert A "Bob" Berry

Robert Allen Berry, 88, of Moncks Corner,S.C., was born on November 26, 1924, and passed from this life into God's hands on August 4, 2013.

Bob was a devoted family man, loving husband of Ellen Glass Berry for 63 years, and a wonderful father of five children and eleven grandchildren.

He was an avid tennis player, outdoorsman and storyteller, noted for his sense of humor and love of a good joke. A lifelong Presbyterian, he served as Elder, choir member and Sunday School teacher of the First Presbyterian Church of Moncks Corner.

Bob graduated from Davidson College on a basketball scholarship and furthered his education with a Master's Degree in Education and Pre-doctoral studies in Advanced Administration from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

Bob spent forty years in education. He was an Assistant Superintendent of Personnel for Berkeley County Schools, a high school principal, basketball coach, teacher and Superintendent of Education at Buford in Lancaster County. He served as President of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators. During his coaching career, he led his Buford High School boys team to participate in their first statewide basketball championship. He was a long-time member of the Moncks Corner Lions Club.

Bob is survived by his wife, Ellen Glass Berry, formerly of Edgemoor, S.C.; and five children - Reverend Robert Berry and his wife, Myra, of Port St. Lucie, FL; Christine Kelly and her husband, Ron of Greenville, SC; Sarah Lynn Tschinkel and her husband, Paul, of New York City, NY; Martha Berry of Brooklyn, NY; and David Glass Berry of Moncks Corner, SC. Grandchildren are: Caroline Berry, Robert Berry III, Joseph Berry, David Berry, Ellen Kelly, Daniel Kelly, Faye Kelly, Isabelle Tschinkel, Nina Tschinkel, Jesse Miller and Cole Berry Miller. Bob was predeceased by his grandson, Jackson Berry.

He was born in Mt. Airy, NC, the son of the late Reverend Robert Lowry Berry and Dovie Venable Berry.

The funeral service in Bob's honor will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Moncks Corner, Thursday morning, August 8, 2013, at 11 o'clock. Interment will follow in Biggin Cemetery, directed by Russell Funeral Chapel, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at the First Presbyterian Church for one hour prior to the funeral service.
