Richard Lee "Dick" Zimmerman, 77, of Bonneau, husband of Thelma Hood Zimmerman, died Wednesday evening, January 19, 2011, in Trident Medical Center, Charleston.
Dick was born June 11, 1933, in Sandusky, OH, the son of Robert R. Zimmerman and Olive Duran Zimmerman.
He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, and then retired after 20 years from SCDNR as hatchery superintendent. Dick loved western movies, especially Gunsmoke; and he always cared for stray dogs (21 at one time). He was an avid deer hunter; and was a member of Mt. Hope Masonic Lodge in St. Stephen.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are 3 sons - Dale E. Zimmerman and his wife, Laurie, of Moncks Corner; David A. Zimmerman of Panama City FL; Dennis L. Zimmerman and his wife, Barbara, of Findlay, OH; 3 daughters - Peggy Barras and her husband, John, of Knightsville; Karen Luna and her husband, Phil, of Memphis, TN; and Denise Sweatman and her husband, Sammie Jr.; of Macedonia; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Luci. He was predeceased by his parents and a grandson - Michael Seegers.
His funeral service was held in Bonneau Pentecostal Holiness Church Saturday , January 22, 2011. Interment followed in Bonneau Baptist Church Cemetery directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner.
