Ralph “Jerry” Hood, Sr., 81, of Macedonia, a retired welder and fabricator, widower of Shelby Jean Gatlin Hood, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017.
Jerry was born October 6, 1935 in Berkeley County, a son of Lonnie Hood and Bessie Hood.
Jerry was the retired owner of Hood’s Welding and Machine Shop. His hobbies included working, fishing, and camping as well as watching his son and granddaughters drag race. He was well known in the Macedonia community for his willingness to lend a helping hand.
He was most proud of a Korean War Memorial he built on his property to honor his brother, Leonard, and others from Berkeley County missing in action or killed in the Korean War. This memorial has been visited by soldier’s family members from all over the United States. They come to pay their respects and to thank Mr. Jerry for his workmanship.
Surviving are a daughter- Linda Hood of Macedonia; a son- Ralph Hood Jr. and his wife Toni, of Macedonia; two granddaughters- Kristen and Whitney Hood, both of Macedonia; a sister Thelma Richardson of Greenwood, Ms.; He was predeceased by brothers-Lee, Mike and Leonard Hood and a sister-Ella Mixon.
His funeral service will be held at Oak Grove P.H. Church, in Macedonia, Saturday morning, January 21, 2017, at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow in Berkeley Grove Cemetery in Alvin. The family will receive friends at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL Friday evening, January 20, 2017 from 5 to 7 o’clock.
