Philip B. Chambers, of Bonneau, know affectionately as Bubba to all who knew him, was born on September 30, 1953, in Charleston, S.C., the son of the late Philip B. Chambers and Gladys R. Chambers. He died peacefully on January 2, 2025, at Roper Hospital in Charleston.
Bubba’s early years were spent in Park Circle. He graduated in 1972 from the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Technical Education Center with a degree in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Heating. He then had a successful career as a Journeyman Electrician with SCE&G.
Bubba moved his family to Cleveland, Tennessee, in 1983, where he not only built and operated Mouse Creek Market but also developed a passion for farming, at one point, owning and tending to over a 100 acres of farmland, while raising hogs, chickens and cattle in his spare time. During this time, he started a job at M&M Mars in the utilities division and stayed until his retirement.
Bubba moved to Bonneau in 2011 to be closer to his aging mother. Proximity to Lake Moultrie offered countless days filled with the outdoor pursuits he loved. An avid outdoorsman, Bubba spent much of his life on the water or in the woods. He was a member of Mepkin Hunt Club and particularly proud of the club's charity, Mepkin Youth Hunt, which focuses on giving children with disabilities or illness a unique opportunity to be involved outdoors.
Bubba is survived by his devoted friend and companion, a Jack Russell named Brody; his children, Charles Chambers of Seattle, WA; Julie Devlin Moncrief and husband Daniel of Chickamauga, GA; Heather Rhode and husband Kevin of Moncks Corner; Christiana Lovelace and husband Monte of Hickory, NC; and Maggie Chambers and fiance Jason of Cleveland, TN; sisters, Linda Gooding of Summerville and Becky Williams of Mt. Pleasant, along with his grandchildren, KJ, Hailee(Robbie), Bradley, Connor, Riley, Justice, and Hannah. He was preceded in death by his sister Phyllis Ann Pender.
Bubba's family will miss his sense of humor, the special times cooking, grilling or just enjoying the outdoors. His recipes for bbq sauce, hash and rice, and crab dip will be coveted family treasures.
A memorial to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Mepkin Youth Hunt in Bubba's honor.
