Michael Vincent Yonke, Jr., 53, of Moncks Corner, retired mechanic with Santee Cooper, husband of Regina Lambert Yonke, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018.
Michael was born August 24, 1964, in Conway, South Carolina, a son of Shelia Causey Yonke and the late Michael Vincent Yonke, Sr.
As a 1982 graduate of Berkeley High School, Michael remained in this area and served his community well. He was a volunteer firefighter with Moncks Corner Rural Fire Department for over 23 years as well as with the Berkeley County Rescue Squad for 22 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching his grandsons play baseball.
A devoted husband to Regina for 32 years, he was a loving father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family, friends and the community he served.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are- two daughters- Lori Beth Dirks and her husband, Mark, of Moncks Corner; Katelyn Yonke of Moncks Corner; a sister- Pamela Yonke of Moncks Corner and three grandsons- Mark Anthony Dirks, Ryan Hunter Dirks and Jason Blake Dirks. In addition to his father, he is predeceased by his Uncle Steve Yonke.
His funeral service, with Firefighters’ honors, will be held at First Christian Church, Moncks Corner Friday June 15, 2018 at 7 o’clock. The family will receive friends at the church from 5 o’clock until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to two places close to Michael’s heart: South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association, 111 West Park Blvd., Columbia, SC 29210 or Carolina Children’s Charity, 1064 Gardner Rd., Charleston, SC 29407.
