Mary Mcleod Tyler

January 11, 1918 — August 25, 2014

Mary MccLeod Tyler, 96, of Estill, S.C. and Moncks Corner, S.C., died on August 25, 2014.

Born on January 11, 1918 in Sumter, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Daniel Melvin McLeod and Bertie Guyton McLeod.

Her father was a Methodist minister and Mary attended public schools across the PeeDee area.

Mary graduated from Columbia College and became a teacher in the public and private schools, where she touched many lives. She was married to the late Edmund Morrison Tyler of Estill.

Mary was a member of Estill United Methodist Church where she served as pianist and organist, and was a member of Estill Music Study Club and Estill Reading Club.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, her parents, two sisters and six brothers.

Mary is survived by three sons: Edmund Morrison Tyler, Jr., (Sara), William Russell Tyler (Sweetheart), and John Timothy Tyler (Marilyn), her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and too-numerous-to-count but much loved nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church in McClellanville on Sunday, August 31, 2014, at 3:00 PM. Family will receive guests in the church hall after service. A graveside service and interment will be held in Lawtonville Cemetery, Estill, S.C., on Tuesday, September 2, at 3:00 PM with a reception to follow in the Estill United Methodist Church hall.
