Mary Kearse Fanning, 93, of Columbia, widow of James Fanning, passed away July 29, 2015, in a North Charleston hospital.
Mrs. Fanning was born June 7, 1922, in Chester, S.C., the daughter of Horace Sidney Kearse and Mary Mace Kearse.
She was a graduate of Olar High School and attended the University of South Carolina. A former resident of Charleston, she had been a member of the Northbridge Terrace Garden Club. After moving to Columbia, she was a former client of the Jenny Trussell Agency and had appeared in a number of local ads and in several movies. She was member of Kearse United Methodist Church in Ehrhardt.
Surviving are two daughters - Carolyn F. Smith and her husband, Dan, of Ehrhardt; and Marilyn F. Godwin and her husband, Ken, of James Island; 4 grandsons - Paul T. Smith and his wife, Heidi; Daniel R. Smith; James N.W. Smith; and John K, Godwin and his wife, Julie; and two great granddaughters - Kaitlyn Smith and Aly Godwin.
Her funeral and committal service will be held in Beaufort National Cemetery Monday afternoon,August 3, 2015, at 1 o'clock.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kearse United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Lula Bell Walling, 7701 Low Country Highway, Ehrhardt, S.C. 29081.
