Mary Dorothy Covella

July 11, 1946 — October 2, 2011

Dearest Mary Dorothy Covella, age 65, of Moncks Corner, SC, entered into eternal life on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her children & grandchildren.

The beginning of her life started being left in a basket on the doorsteps of the New York Foundling and her Godparents were a Priest and a Nun. Mary loved everyone and has touched many lives with her gentle heart. She always had such a bright outlook about everything and even joked up to her final hours. She said many of times even in the toughest of times that “If this illness leads to someone getting closer to God, it was worth it,” these are the words of a pure heart and a genuine gem of our Lord. She is known for 20+ years of amazing Thanksgiving gatherings. She loved playing Scrabble and not even 2 weeks before she laid her highest point word ever. She always joked about being a Domestic Engineer since her husband was a Chief Engineer. But most of all she loved her husband, children, & grandchildren and all she cared about was that they will be ‘okay.’ She is truly a beacon of strength that can inspire the uninspired.

She was the loving wife of Charles Andrew Covella and was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother. Mary Covella is survived by her children: Adam Charles Covella of Hanahan SC, Eve Marie Covella of Hanahan SC, Abram Andrew Covella of Pine Beach NJ, Mary Bethany Covella of Beachwood NJ, and six grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Carol, Dorothy, Ellen, Marion, Jack, John, Michael, Tim, Tom, & Jim.

Her funeral service will be held Wednesday morning, October 5, 2011, at 11 o’clock in St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetry directed by RUSSELL FUNERRAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at Russell Funeral Chapel Tuesday evening, October 4, 2011, between 6 and 8 o'clock.

The family is gratefully accepting donations in honor of Mrs. Mary Covella to Agape Hospice, 9301 Medical Plaza Dr., N. Charleston, S.C. 29406; or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, S.C. Chapter, 107 W. Park Blvd., Suite 150, Columbia, S.C. 29210 (1-800- 613-0550 or www.lls.org). These charities were tremendously helpful to Mary’s husband during his time of need.
