Mary Gladys Ulmer Austin, 89, of Moncks Corner, a homemaker, widow of Judson D. (J.D.) Austin passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, in a Charleston hospital.
Mrs. Austin was born June 21, 1924, in Moncks Corner, a daughter of Pinckney K. Ulmer and Daisy Belle Metts Ulmer.
She had been a Sunday School teacher for many years at Wassamassaw Baptist Church where she was a longtime member. A devoted Wife, mother and grandmother, she had worked on the farm where she cared for her chickens and sold the eggs. She was an avid wordsearch puzzle worker and was always fascinated by hummingbirds.
Surviving are her daughters - Mary Austin Rueger and her husband, Carl, of Moncks Corner; Betty Austin Wall and her husband, Frank, of Lexington; and Diane Austin Ashworth of Chase City VA; grandchildren - Sharon Rueger Whitley and her husband, Jeff; Frank Watson Wall II and his wife, Gayna; Daniel William Wall and his wife, Alison; Chad Ashworth and his wife, Jennifer; and Tyler Ashworth and his wife, Danielle; great grandchildren - Lauren Whitley; Kaitlyn Whitley; Cassady Wall; Camden Wall; Jocelyn Ashworth and Wyatt Ashworth; great great grandchild - Rylynn Alejo; siblings - Susie Ulmer Bell of Moncks Corner; Catherine Ulmer Ballard of New Albany, Ind; and Bennie Ulmer of Moncks Corner. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by siblings - Edith Ulmer Austin; Ellis Ulmer; and Pinckney Kershaw Ulmer.
Her funeral service will be held at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, MONCKS CORNER, Thursday afternoon, March 20, 2014 at 2 o'clock. Interment will follow in Berkeley Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL for one hour prior to the service, between 1 and 2 o'clock.
