ATKINS, Jennings Mack

Jennings Mack Atkins of Moncks Corner, born September 11, 1926, entered into eternal rest at the age of 83 on
May 31, 2010, in his home after a brief illness.

One of 18 children of the late Thomas Lawton and Estelle Haddock Atkins of Vance, S.C., Mack served as Chief Motor
Machinist’s mate in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the Auk-class Minesweeper, which was acquired by the
U.S.Navy for the dangerous task of removing mines from minefields laid in the water to prevent ships from passing.
A retired manager of the Automotive Hobby Shop at the Naval Station in Charleston, Mack was also a member of
Masonic Lodge 269 of Moncks Corner, the Scottish Rite Temple in Charleston, and the Omar Shrine Temple in Mt.
Pleasant. Mack was a member of the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner, but also attended the Santee Circle
Baptist Church. Mack enjoyed fishing, and spent countless hours with his brother, Flippo, at Atkins Landing.

Mack leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Ruby Whitted Atkins, as well as a surviving brother, H.V. “Stringbean”
Atkins, Sr.; surviving sisters – Norene Myers, Marguerite Windham and Carolyn Upchurch; daughters – Genny Atkins
Gue and her husband, Tom; Donna Atkins Tuten and her husband, Raymond; Deborah Atkins Baker and her husband,
James “Beau” Baker; step-children – Norman L. Sires, Jr., and Ellen “Punky” Nettles; grandchildren – Jami Shorter;
Johnathan Rawlings, David Rawlings, Dale Tallent “Dee II”; Mary Elizabeth Tuten; step-grandchildren – Trey Sires and his wife,
Robbin; Scott Sires and his wife, Lauren; Allison Stanley and her husband, Mark; Ryan McCay and his wife, Jamie; and Jessica McCay;
God-daughter – Cherra Caldwell; 8 great-children and one great-great-grandchild.

Mack’s memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner, 112 East Main Street, on Thursday, June 3,
2010, at 4:00 P.M. Arrangements by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner.
