Louise Saulisbury Varner

Louise Saulisbury Varner, 89, of Pinopolis, first married to the late Joseph Winter, widow of John L. Varner, passed away Monday, July 4, 2016.

Louise was born on February 20, 1927, in Berkeley County, a daughter of Curtis E. Saulisbury and Janie Sweatman Saulisbury.

She attended Berkeley County Schools and was a lifelong member of Wassamassaw Baptist Church. She worked as a bookkeeper, a clerk with family planning, eventually retiring from Berkeley County Health Department.

Surviving are daughters- Jane M. Beam and her husband, Jim, of Charleston; Joann W. Mizell of Pinopolis; a sister- Juanita S. Calvert of Walterboro; a brother- Curtis E. Saulisbury, Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Charleston; grandchildren- Jason M. Matthews; Dr. Brandon L. Mizell and his wife, Catherine; four great grandchildren and another on the way.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to her caregiver- Chasity Jones, and her grandson Jason for his dedication and love during her final years.

Her funeral service will be held at Wassamassaw Baptist Church, Saturday morning, July 9, 2016, at 10 o’clock. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following.
