Linwood Elsie Mitchum, 79, of Bethera, Navy veteran of the Korean War, and widower of Loraine Martin Mitchum, passed away Saturday morning, August 24,2013, in a St. Stephen nursing home.
Elsie was born November 24, 1933, in Berkeley County, a son of Lemuel H. Mitchum and Eula Francis Mitchum.
Elsie was a retired Civil Service employee of the Charleston Naval Shipyard and a member of Berea United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a step-son, Mark Mitchum and his wife, Toni, of Swansea; 5 brothers - Vernon H. Mitchum of Moncks Corner; Thomas F. Mitchum of Bethera; A. C. Mitchum and his wife, Ann, of North Charleston; Marvin G. Mitchum, Sr., of Bethera; and Robert C. Mitchum, Sr., and his wife, Mary, of Cordesville; 3 sisters - Maxine Johnson and her husband, Carl, of James Island; Jean King and her husband, Robert, of North Charleston; and Shirley Hood and her husband, "Bobby", of Moncks Corner.
His funeral service will be held at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, MONCKS CORNER, Monday morning, August 26, 2013, at 11 o'clock. Interment will follow in Berea United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Sunday afternonn, August 25, 2013, between 5 and 7 o'clock.
