Leoma Estelle Moore

September 19, 1907 — October 19, 2009

Leoma Estelle Brooks Matchan Moore, 102, of Chocowinity, NC., formerly
of Bonneau Beach, SC, died Monday October 19, 2009, in North Carolina.


Mrs. Moore was born in Sycamore County, AL, on September 19,1907, to the
late Ernest Victor Brooks and Ella Medie Chappell Brooks. In 1929 the married
Jake Matchan who preceded her in death in November 1972. She lated married
Frank Moore. Mrs. Moore was an amazing seamstress. She would make gowns
for her daughter Nannette's piano concerts and would send them on location, always
arriving on time and fitting perfectly. Mrs. Moore played clarinet in the Charleston
Sympyony Orchestra. She was a member of the American Camellia Society and was
a master gardener of camellias, winning many camellia shows from New Jersey to
South Carolina. She was also a member and was extremely involved in the Eastern
Star in Charleston and St. Stephen, and received a warm welcome from the Eastern
Star when she arrived in Beaufort County. Mrs. Moore was a very active member of the
First Southern Methodist Church in North Charleston and attended Warren Chapel
Methodist Church in Blounts Creek, NC, which she loved dearly and where she
celebrated her 100th birthday on homecoming day. She was a wonderful,
loving mother and grandmother.


Survivors include her daughter: Nannette Smyre and her husband, Jerry, of Chocowinity,
NC, two granddaughters: Kathryn Meth of Nanuet, NY and Anna Cave and her husband,
Bryan, of Florham Park, NJ: two great grandchildren - Hayley Meth and Benjamin Cave;
one sister - Vivian Adamson of Alexander City, AL; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.


Her funeral service will be Thursday morning, October 22, 2009, at First Southern
Methodist Church in North Charleston. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery,
directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner. Friends may call
at Russell Funeral Chapel Wednesday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Southern Methodist Church,
1301 Remount Road, North Charleston, S.C. 29406.
