Joseph Percy Simmons, 66, of North Charleston, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010, in a Charleston hospital.
Joseph was born May 21, 1943, at Charleston, a son of John Percy Simmons and Ruby O'Dell Blackstock Simmons.
Joseph was of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army, was a member of the American Legion and had retired from Civil Service. His favorite pasttimes included drawing, working with stone, and collecting coins.
Survivors include a daughter - Brooke Renae Simmons of Australia; 3 sons - Christopher Simmons of Goose Creek; Joey Charles Simmons and John Percy Simmons both of Beaufort; a brother - Frank Simmons and his wife, Nancy, of Ladson; 5 sisters - Valerie Callender Smith of St. Stephen; JoAnna S. Stanley and her husband, Richard, of Macedonia; Gloria Litchfield and her husband, James, of Macedonia; Betty Jean Bullard and her husband, Kenneth, of North Charleston; Shirley Lee Michener and her husband, Joe, of Bonneau; an uncle - Dan Blackstock and his wife, Gloria, of Fayetteville, NC;special friends - Richard Burn and Jimmy Landday; and many neices and nephews.
The funeral service for Joseph will be Saturday morning, January 9, at 11 o'clock at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner. Interment will follow in Grace Advent Church Cemetery in Walterboro, at 2:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL from 6 until 8 o'clock Friday evening.
