It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joey “Pete” Edell Hartley of Moncks Corner after an ongoing battle with lung disease. He gained his wings on August 24, 2022, doing what he loved best, visiting his hometown of Jamestown and enjoying time with special friends.
Pete was born on June 24, 1952, in Hemmingway, a son of William and Vie Hartley. He retired after 35 years as a supervisor of welders and shipfitters at Detyens Shipyard. Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with friends and was a proud member of the Mt. Hope Masonic Lodge #128. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all that knew him.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Carla DuRant Hartley are a step-daughter- Christie Lowery and her partner, Randall of Charleston; a step-son- Lan Lowery and his wife, Holly of Bonneau Beach; step-grandchildren- Becky and Katie; a truly special granddaughter- Kelli Lynn Hartley of Ridgeville; and a brother- Calvin Hartley and his wife, Linda of Jamestown. He was predeceased by his son- Edell Laran Hartley, a brother- Tommy Hartley, and two sisters- Christine Gailey and Penny Howard.
His funeral service will be held at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Sunday afternoon, August 28, 2022, at 2 o’clock. Interment will follow in Biggin Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Russell Funeral Chapel from 1 o’clock until the hour of service.
