Joanna Keller Dotters, 91, of Pinopolis SC, widow of Charles W. Dotters, formerly married to the late Dempsey O. Metts, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Thursday, May 25, 2017.
Mrs. Dotters was born January 7, 1926 in Jesup Georgia, the daughter of the late Douglas J. Keller and Geraldine M. Keller Brown.
She graduated from Memminger High School in Charleston SC and began working with the South Atlantic Life Insurance Company. She was later employed by Berkeley Electric Cooperative. In 1964 she moved to Key Biscayne, Florida and began a long career with the International Bank of Miami.
Joanna and her husband Charles were boating enthusiasts, spending most of their recreational time on the water. They loved to travel and upon retirement, enjoyed many happy years touring the United States and Canada. In 1994 they moved to Pinopolis to be close to her daughter who had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
Joanna loved animals and always had a pet dog by her side. She was known as the dog sitter of the neighborhood.
She loved her family dearly and was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Vibrant and personable, she was a delight to be with. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are a son- Douglas Oliver Metts and his wife, Gail, of Macbeth, SC; a daughter- Loretta “Retta” Graham and her husband, Lenton, of Pinopolis; a step daughter- Charlanne Dotters Luce of Granberry, TX; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Jeanine Crane and Nelda “Tinkie” Stewart, a brother, Douglas Keller and a grandson, Brian Metts.
The family wishes to thank Bertha Gadsden, Veronica Davis, Inez Levey and Loverta Middleton for their dedication, loving support and friendship in caring for Mrs. Dotters during her illness. Appreciation is also extended to Hospice of Charleston for their valued services.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Moncks Corner. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Summerville MS Support Group, 118 West 3rd South Street, Summerville, SC 29483 or Doc Williams SPCA, 500 Cypress Gardens Road, Moncks Corner, SC 29461.
