Joan August Terry

TERRY, Joan August, 96, of North Charleston, widow of her beloved husband William Rufus Terry, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015.

Joan was born October 7, 1918, in New York, New York, a daughter of
Solomon Isadore Finkelstein and Sarah Schwartz Finkelstein.

Joan had quite an extraordinary life, as a longtime performer, she was known by many as “Martini- Martin” which was her stage name. After traveling the world as a performer, with her sidekick, “Bon-Bon” (a poodle), Joan met and married the love of her life, Bill Terry. Before settling in Summerville, South Carolina the couple had lived at Barbers Point Naval Base in Hawaii while Bill completed his duties in the US Navy. Joan and Bill retired in Summerville, where they successfully owned and managed property.

She is survived by her sister- Rose Weinberg and 12 nieces and nephews.

Her graveside service will be held at Plantation Memorial Gardens, Thursday morning, April 16, 2015 at 11 o’clock. The family will receive friends from
9:30 to 10:30 prior to the service at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner.
