Jessie B. "Donnie" Orvin, 88, of Moncks Corner, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012, in a North Charleston Hospital.
Donnie was born 9 August 1923 in Macedonia, Berkeley County, S.C., son of Joseph James Orvin, Jr. and Jessie Mae Wyndham Orvin.
He was the husband of Evelyn Guerry Orvin whom he wed on June 11, 1950.
He proudly served his country in World War II as a member of the 581st Anti-aircraft Artillery Battalion. Donnie served in five different campaigns in the European Theatre and was at the Rhine River when the war ended. Two days later he was part of the battalion which liberated the concentration camp, Buchenwald.
After returning home, he married Evelyn Guerry and settled in Moncks Corner where they made their home. He was a member of the American Legion Post #126 and was a charter member of the Moncks Corner First Christian Church. He retired from Oliver Furniture Company and the Berkeley County Board of Voter Registration.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn, and his two sisters, Gloria Way and Veronica Garrett. Donnie was a loving and generous uncle to many nieces and nephews who will miss his faith and sense of humor. He was well respected throughout his community and was always willing to help his fellow man.
Donnie was preceded in death by his sisters, Dolan Bilton, Bertha Shuler and Beatrice Caldwell and his brothers, Styles Orvin and Conway Orvin.
A funeral service will be held at Russell Funeral Chapel in Moncks Corner at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 15, 2012. Interment will follow in Biggin Cemetery.
