Jesse Herman “Red” Brown, Jr., 76, o f Moncks Corner, widower of Barbara Britt Brown, passed away April 23, 2012, in a Charleston hospital.
Red was born July 20, 1935, in St. Stephen, S.C., son of the late Jesse Herman Brown, Sr., and Mary Henson Brown.
After attending Clemson University, he attended and graduated from LeTorneau University in Longview, Texas, with a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was retired from Salmons Dredging Corporation as Senior Vice-President and General Superintendent.
A member of First Presbyterian Church of Moncks Corner, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, having passed along his love of the outdoors to his children, grandchildren and his many friends. He was a very knowledgeable birdwatcher. Red was one of the founding members of Belle Isle Hunt Club and he had the distinction of being the first Eagle Scout in Berkeley county.
Red is survived by his children: Jeffrey Scott Brown and his wife, Linda, of Moncks Corner; Jennifer B. Bishop and her husband, George, of Pinopolis; and Lisa Paige Brown of Charleston; step-daughter – Caroline Bunch of Moncks Corner; grandchildren – Dylan Brown; Amanda Gaskins and her husband, Reggie; Benjamin Bishop; Mary Chandler Bishop; Lawson Clark; Russell Brown; and great granddaughter, Emma Brown; sister – Anne Brown Crawford and her husband, John, of Bonneau; aunt – Ruby Henson Preacher of Charleston; nephew – John P. “Jay” Crawford, Jr and his wife, Scarlett; nieces – Jo Anne Noack and Allison Crawford; great nieces – Anna Grace Crawford, Phoebe Crawford; great nephew – John P. “Jack” Crawford III; former wife – Gayle Parler Jourdain; and his beloved rescued cat, Sammy. He was preceded in death by his great granddaughter – Lillian Serenity Brown and his beloved Boston Terrier, Bess.
A memorial service in Red’s honor will be held at 11 o’clock Thursday morning, April 26, 2012, at the graveside in Biggin Cemetery, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL of Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.
