Jervey Allen McKelvey, 98, of Summerville, retired farmer, and widower of Helen Murray McKelvey, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 20, 2023.

Jervey was born on September 20, 1924, in Berkeley County, SC, the son of Oliver Cecil McKelvey, Sr. and Etta Grooms McKelvey.  He was a man of his principles and a devoted follower of Christ.

Mr. McKelvey honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII and was a faithful member of Wassamassaw Baptist Church in his earlier years. He was known for his love of telling long and entertaining stories that brought back to life various memories going all the way back to the 1930s.  Jervey was greatly loved by his family and friends and will be sorely missed.

Survivors include his son- Mark McKelvey and his wife, Amy of Indian Trial, NC; three grandsons- Caleb McKelvey and his partner, Anna Collier of Austin, TX; Zack McKelvey and his wife, Sally of Indian Trail, NC; Brendan Rose of Charlotte, NC; a great-granddaughter- Sullivan McKelvey, and his wonderful caregivers who became part of the family- Gerlene Jamerson, Carolyn Jackson, and Quin Johnson. His graveside service will be held at Wassamassaw Baptist Church Cemetery, Wednesday afternoon, March 22, 2023, at 1 o’clock, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Curesearch.org, for the fight against pediatric cancer, which claimed the life of his granddaughter Emily in 2008.
