Ida Jean Wyndham Varner, known affectionately by friends and family as Jean, gracefully departed this life on December 18, 2024, at her home in Moncks Corner, S.C. She was born in Berkeley County, S.C., on February 28, 1941, to parents Calhoun and Gertrude Morris Wyndham.
Jean is survived by her husband of 65 years, John "Wayne" Varner, her daughter, Candace J. "Candy" Varner, grandchildren, Julia Welch, Caroline Brooke Burbage, and Jaxson Rodriguez. She was predeceased by her son Bart Varner and two infant daughters, Kimberly Ann and Krystal Lynn Varner, as well as her brothers, Lagree, F.E., Billy and Bobby Wyndham, and sister, Diane Turbeville.
Jean was particularly active within her church, where she served as Relief Society President, Primary President, Visiting Teacher Coordinator, and Primary Teacher. She also enjoyed genealogy. Jean was always serving others and putting everyone above herself.
A visitation will be held at Russell Funeral Chapel, Friday, December 20, 2024, 5-7 PM. Funeral service will be Saturday, December 21, 11 AM, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial will follow in Rudd Branch Cemetery.
