James Sidney Thomas

James Sidney Thomas, 77, of Summerville, ENC USN (Ret.), husband of Evelyn Leadbeter Thomas, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017.

Jim was born December 8, 1939, in Glenn Dale, Maryland, a son of Esther Elizabeth Kolbe Thomas.

Having served his country in the US Navy, as an Engineman, Jim did 5 tours in Vietnam before retiring. He also retired from Santee Cooper after 17 years as a maintenance mechanic. Jim was a member of VFW 9509 and CCCA-Combatant Craft Crewman Association. He was a devoted husband to Evelyn for 48 years; a loving father and grandfather and very involved in his military organizations.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters- Susan Dorsey and her husband, Ted, of Goose Creek; Jennifer Frazer and her husband, Mark, of Goose Creek; a son- Jimmy Thomas of Moncks Corner; two sisters- Rosalie Nolan and her husband, Norman, of Mt. Airy Md.; Esther Merryman and her husband, Jay, of Glen Burnie, Md.; four grandchildren- Samantha Dorsey; Tabitha Dorsey; Christopher Brown and Matthew Brown and many special nieces and nephews.

His funeral service, with full military honors, will be held at Russell Funeral Chapel, Moncks Corner, Monday morning, July 31, 2017, at 11 o’clock. Interment to follow in Berkeley Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Russell Funeral Chapel Sunday evening, July 30, 2017 from 5 to 7 o’clock.
