James Allan Lanier

James “Jim” Allan Lanier, 57, of Moncks Corner, retired engineer with Santee Cooper, husband of Margaret Talbert Lanier, passed away May 26, 2017.

Jim was born June 20, 1959 in Wilmington, NC, a son of N.B. Lanier and Sandra Garner Lanier.


Jim was of the Christian faith and a member of Freedom Church, Moncks Corner. A 1982 graduate of Clemson University, Jim went to work for Santee Cooper where he was employed for the next 28 years. In 2008 he retired from Santee Cooper and went to work for SCE&G in Columbia, SC for several years. Presently he was employed by U.C. Synergetic working on a contract basis for Santee Cooper, at which time he moved back to Moncks Corner. Jim’s loves in life were his family, golfing, and traveling with his wife. He was looking forward to his second retirement and traveling more extensively. Jim never met a stranger and loved living back in Moncks Corner with his family and friends. He loved the Lord and was anxious to find a place to serve in his new church.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a son- James Allan Lanier II and his wife, Melanie, of Moncks Corner; a step son- Brad Ferguson and his wife Michelle, of Fort Mill; a step daughter- Kelley O’Dell and her husband, Robby, of Moncks Corner; 3 sisters- Debbie Lawter and her husband, Steve, of Inman, SC; Denise Foster and her husband, Lee, of Inman, SC; Jennifer Worrilow and her husband, Larry, of Atlanta, Ga. and 6 grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Wednesday afternoon, May 31, 2017, at 4 o’clock. Interment will follow in St. John’s Baptist Church Cemetery, Pinopolis. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 2:30 p.m. until the hour of service.
