James Mayo Cox, Jr., 61, of North Charleston, passed away on the morning
of March 22, 2009, at the Veterans Hospital in Charleston, S. C.
Mr. Cox was born in Brooksville, Florida, on September 1, 1947, son of
the late James M. Cox, Sr., and Lennie Belle Scott Cox.
Surviving are his devoted and loving wife, Wanda Oliver Cox, of North
Charleston; three sisters - Nancy Mixon and her husband, Dewey; Margaret
Whitley and her husband, William; Barbara Barber and her husband, Rick;
two sons - Wesley Cox and his wife, Gina; and James "Jimmy" Cox; two
daughters - Susan Cox; Christi Cox Pritchard and her husband, Trey;
two stepsons - Henry Bailey, Jr., and Joey Burdette; one stepdaughter -
Sheena Burdette De La Torre and her husband, Nestor; and 13 grandchildren.
After graduating from Hanahan High School, Mr. Cox served his country in
the U. S. Navy, receiving the Purple Heart in 1968 for wounds received during
the Viet Nam War.
After the war he attended numerous colleges and universities and received
a Mechanical Engineering degree. He was a supervisor for the Maintenance
Department at the Charleston International Airport from 1991 through 1996.
The family will receive visitors at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL in Moncks Corner
on Tuesday evening, March 24, between the hours of 6 and 8 P. M. His funeral
service will be at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Russell Funeral Chapel, with
interement following in Whispering Pines Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner.
