Hazel Virginia Hill Thigpen, known as Hazel to all who knew her, peacefully passed on December 19, 2024, at her brother's home in Moncks Corner. She born in Berkeley County, South Carolina, on May 1, 1928, to parents Vertis James Hill and Ethel Hill.
Hazel lived in North Charleston for the majority of her life and was a familiar face at the Navy Exchange on the Navy Base, where she dedicated many years of service.
Hazel was predeceased by her husband Leo Thigpen, son Michael Thigpen, grandson Jordy Thigpen, brothers James D. Hill, Mack Hill, and Vertis Hill Jr., as well as her sisters Inez M. Petracca and Alma V. Gann. She is survived by brothers Wayne Varner, Dennis Hill and his wife Linda; sisters Faye Davis and Nita Stone, along with her husband Duffy;
2 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
In her final days, Hazel's care was provided by her brother Wayne and his daughter Candy at their home.
