Harold Huxford Harvey, Jr.

Harold Huxford Harvey, Jr., 89, of Pinopolis, husband of Frances Arnold Harvey, died Sunday evening, November 15, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Harvey was born August 1, 1920, in Pinopolis, SC, a son of Harold Huxford Harvey, Sr. and Annie Lucille McCants Harvey.



After attending Berkeley High School, he joined the U. S. Army in 1942, and served four years in the Army Medical Corp. during World War II. He worked for Santee Cooper for 12 years. Beginning in 1955, Mr. Harvey owned and managed Harvey 5 cent & $1.00 store in Moncks Corner until he retired in 1979. Throughout his lifetime, he farmed and raised cattle

Mr. Harvey was a member of the Rotary Club for 25 years; the Chamber of Commerce for 25 years; the American Legion Post 126, Past President and Director of Farm Bureau for 51 years; Past Commissioner of Soil and Water Conservation for 48 years; Past President of the Pinpolis Lancing Tournament for 13 years.
He was elected to the Board of Directors of Farmers and Merchants Bank in 1966 and was a member of the Pinopolis United Methodist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: a daughter, Linda H. Harrell and her husband, Bobby of Hendersonville, SC; three sons, Harold H. Harvey, III and his wife, Naomi, of Pinopolis; Joseph A. Harvey and his wife, Gwen, of Moncks Corner; Robert M. Harvey, and his wife, Sharon, of Moncks Corner; 1 sister, Lucille H. Lopez of Goose Creek; special friends, Agnes Lewis, Octavia Elmore and all Solaris Hospice attendants. a sister, Evelyn H. Weathers and a brother, Joseph Clyde Harvey, predeceased him.

Relatives and Friends may call at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner, from 6 – 8 PM on Tuesday, November 17. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 18 at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Pinopolis.
