Guy Eugene “Jeep” Kessler, 86, of Honey Hill, husband of 57 years to Judy Donnelly Kessler, passed away October 23, 2017 at his residence.
“Jeep” was born April 26, 1931, in Berkeley County, a son of Fred Kessler and Estelle Wilson Kessler.
A loving husband and father, “Jeep” was a member of Santee Circle Church of God. He was a Macedonia High School graduate and a member of the School Football team. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict, and was employed by the U. S. Forest Service for over 30 years as a timber service administrator prior to his retirement.
“Jeep” was well known in this area for hand making turkey calls; a unique hobby he began in 1957. Using international wood, he constructed many types of turkey calls, one is known as the “Jeep Special”. Due to his talent and the national success of his turkey calls, articles have been published about him in SC Wildlife Magazine, The News & Observer and Moultrie News.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son- Guy Eugene Kessler II, of Awendaw; a daughter- Betty Ruth Kessler Bowers and her husband, Joseph “Bo”, of Awendaw; two grandsons- Joseph Kelley Bowers III and Forrest Kessler Bowers also of Awendaw; a sister- Joan Hiers and her husband, Donald, of Ehrhardt.
He is predeceased by a son- Jeffrey Kessler.
His funeral service will be held at Russell Funeral Chapel, Friday morning, October 27, 2017, at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow in Honey Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Russell Funeral Chapel, Thursday evening October 26, 2017 from 6 to 8 o’clock.
