Gloria Sistine Reidinger, age 83, passed away at home under hospice care in Chesapeake, Virginia on March 6, 2021.
Born October 15, 1937 in West Hollywood California, Gloria was the daughter of Reverend Robert Kidder Johnson and Ellen Aileen Schenck Johnson.
Gloria will be buried with her husband, Wilson “Bill” Orville Reidinger, who served honorably in the United States Navy (Senior Chief, Retired), in the Beaufort National Cemetery on Friday March 12, 2021 at 2 o'clock.
A native of southern California, Gloria graduated from Fontana High School in Fontana, California in 1955. She attended Chaffey Junior College in Ontario, California. Although she lived in many other places, Moncks Corner, South Carolina was home in her heart. During her years in Moncks Corner, Gloria wrote fishing columns as “Sam Bass” and herself for The Berkeley Independent, she also wrote other articles under her own name. Gloria taught water aerobics to ladies at the YMCA, and served as organist at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, where she led the effort to replace the organ.
Due to ill health, Gloria moved to Virginia in 2015 to live near her daughter Patricia and her son-in-law Christopher. At the time of her death, she was living with them in their Chesapeake, Virginia home. While in Virginia, Gloria enjoyed visiting Busch Gardens and local parks, sitting on the back porch and watching birds, watching Shirley Temple movies, visiting with family, and decorating the home. Christmas was her favorite holiday, due to her love of the decorations and music.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ellen Aileen (Schenck) Johnson, her father, Reverend Robert Kidder Johnson, her stepmother, Eleanor Marie (Caryl) Johnson, and her half-sister, Janice Ruth (Johnson) Cordaro.
She is survived by her children, William Reidinger, Rochelle (DW) Converse, Ronald Reidinger, and Patricia (Christopher) Martin, her brother, Robert (Vicki) Johnson, plus many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
