67 year old Attorney George Benjamin Bishop, Jr., of Pinopolis, SC, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 7, 2024. He was predeceased by his father, Attorney, George Benjamin Bishop and his mother, Elliott Williams Bishop of Pinopolis, SC. George is survived by his wife, Jennifer Brown Bishop; daughter Lisa Bishop Johnson, husband Ashley of Moncks Corner and granddaughter, Autumn Wrenn Johnson; son, George Benjamin Bishop III, wife Abby, grandson George Benjamin Bishop IV and granddaughter, Mary Charles Bishop of Pinopolis; and daughter, Mary Chandler Bishop of Charleston, SC. His siblings are sister Elliott Bishop West, husband, Hal, of Bonneau Beach; sister Martha Bishop Pitman, MD, husband, Peter, of Salem, MA; and brother Dennis Cain Bishop of Moncks Corner.
Born June 30, 1956, George grew up and attended school in Moncks Corner, after which he attended undergraduate school at The University of South Carolina, followed by USC Law School. He attended and was a life-long member of Trinity Church, Pinopolis, where he happily helped cook breakfast on Sunday mornings.
Upon graduation from law school, he moved back to Moncks Corner and served as deputy solicitor from 1982-1986, before joining his father’s law firm, where he continued his practice. He held the office of Municipal Judge for the town of Moncks Corner for many years. In addition to his practice of law, George was a founding member of the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a member of the American Inns of Court, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and served in the South Carolina National Guard.
George was reared by an avid sportsman, his father, and was taught the love, respect, and ways of the woods and wildlife at quite an early age. He then passed along those same teachings to his own children, Benjamin and Chandler. Another of George’s endeavors for the last several years was a partnership with his son, Benjamin, in the cotton growing business.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Church, Pinopolis, with interment at St. John’s Baptist Church, Pinopolis, directed by Russell Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John’s Baptist Church, 507 Berkeley Drive, Moncks Corner, South Carolina 29461 and Trinity Church Pinopolis, 1915 Pinopolis Rd., S.C. 29469.
