On Thursday, July 1, 2021, Gary Lee Luetkemeyer, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather was born into eternal life surrounded by his wife of 59 years, Connie C. Luetkemeyer, and his children Paul, Michele and Denise. He was 81 years old.
Gary was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on November 23, 1939, to Ed and Ruth Luetkemeyer. He was raised in Okeene, Oklahoma with a strong belief in family values and work ethic as well as an even stronger belief in his Catholic faith which helped him to become the loving, compassionate and caring man that he will always be remembered for.
Gary met the love of his life, Connie, at Benedictine Heights College in Tulsa, OK. They were married in 1961 and moved to Arlington, VA where he served in the Army and worked for the federal government as a Financial Analyst. His early career allowed him to travel and visit other countries while always remembering to bring unique gifts for his wife and children. After leaving the Army, he continued to work for the federal government until his retirement.
Gary and Connie moved to Chantilly, VA in 1968 where they raised their four children. A devout Catholic, he was one of the original parishioners of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church.
He was passionate about many things including genealogy, metal detecting the beaches of South Carolina, and watching his hometown sports teams: the Washington Capitals, Washington Nationals, and the Washington Football team. He enjoyed coaching his kids in softball and baseball and was instrumental in forming the local sports league that eventually became CYA. His number one hobby and passion, however, was always to be the best husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather he could be. Mission accomplished.
He will be forever missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Connie, his children Paul Luetkemeyer and his wife, Jenny, Michele Russell and her husband, Kyle, and Denise Tammaro and her husband, Chris, as well as his ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Kevin Luetkemeyer.
A funeral mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Chantilly, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass (9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.). Burial will be private.
