Fred Ray Cannon, 90, of Moncks Corner, widower of Doris Jolly Cannon, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2014, in Mt. Pleasant.
Mr. Cannon was born January 4, 1924, in Compton, CA, the son of Fred B. Cannon and Anna Deidrich Cannon.
Mr. Cannon moved from California to Berkeley County in the 1940s to work as a drilling contractor on the Santee Cooper dam while it was being constructed. After this he trained as and served as a pilot in the Army Air Force. He then married Doris Jolly and they moved back to California until retiring in 1974. After retiring, they returned to make Moncks Corner their permanent home, and he and his son, Cliff, opened Cannon Welding.
Surviving are his daughter – Katherine Dennis of Moncks Corner; his son – Cliff Cannon and his wife, Sharon, of Moncks Corner; 5 grandchildren – Scott Dennis and his wife, Wendy; Mat Dennis; LeAnn Cannon; Kathryn Cannon; and Shawn Wood and his wife, Connie; 6 great grandchildren – Jonathan Dennis; Katlyn Dennis; Cooper Dennis; Isabelle Wood; Hayes Wood and Sam Wood; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service honoring Mr. Cannon will be held at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL Wednesday afternoon, December 3, 2014, at 1 o'clock.
