Evelyn Guerry Orvin

August 20, 1928 — January 27, 2014

Evelyn Guerry Orvin was born on August 20, 1928 in Bonneau, S.C. to Henderson and Maude Morris Guerry.

She attended Berkeley High School and then graduated from Winthrop College with an education degree. In 1950, she married Donnie Orvin and they lived a very happy life together in Moncks Corner before Donnie’s passing in 2012. Evelyn spent her entire career with the Berkeley County School District, retiring after 42 years of service. She taught P.E. and science and coached at Macedonia High School and Berkeley High School. In 1951, she led the Macedonia High School’s girls’ basketball team to the state championship.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donnie, and her sisters Nina Cooper and Joanne Watson.

Evelyn is survived by her brother H.G. Guerry and his wife, Mae of Chapin, SC and her sister Andy Holler of Columbia, SC. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Tookie Harrop, Coral Werner, Kim Cooper, Mike Guerry, Sarena Grazyck, Cynthia Ames, Jay Watson, JoEllyn Watson, Matthew Roberts, Jeremy Roberts, and Lindsay Holler as well as twenty great nieces and nephews and fifteen great-great nieces and nephews who will all dearly miss their Aunt Ebbie.

Ebbie loved music and baking and she eagerly shared her talents with all who knew her. She played the piano at The Barony House in Moncks Corner for five years and loved seeing her former students and neighbors there. Ebbie was also well known for hosting elaborate and festive Christmas parties for all of her family and friends. She never met a stranger and was always generous with a compliment or a slice of her famous chocolate cake.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Arthur Bradley, Bertha Green and Casey Caddell for their compassion, companionship and love they gave to Ebbie during the final months of her life.

The funeral will be held at 11AM on Saturday, February 1,2014 at Russell Funeral Chapel in Moncks Corner. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
