Evelyn R. Nettles

NETTLES, Evelyn Evelyn Russell Nettles, 85, of Moncks Corner, widow of Roland E. Nettles, Sr., died Tuesday in a Charleston hospital. Her funeral service will be at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at First Presbyterian Church of Moncks Corner. Interment will be in St. Stephen Episcopal Church Cemetery directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner. Friends may call at Russell Funeral Chapel from 5 - 7 P.M. Friday evening. Mrs. Nettles was born January 15, 1923, at St. Stephen, a daughter of Amasa Primus Russell and Annie Klintworth Russell. She was a graduate of St. Stephen High School and Atlantic Christian College, receiving her Masters degree from Western Carolina University. She taught third grade for over 20 years at Berkeley Elementary School and served as Guidance Counselor at Berkeley High School for 15 years prior to retiring. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Moncks Corner, she was a member of the Pearl Leland Sunday School Class and the Women of the Church. An avid bridge player, playing EVERY Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock, she also loved going on beach vacations with family and friends. Surviving are a son, Roland E. Nettles, Jr., of Moncks Corner; two daughters, Lynn N. Geren of Moncks Corner; Margaret Ann Pipkin and her husband Michael of Chester, VA; a stepdaughter, Betty N. Simpkins and her husband Clark of Woodruff; grandchildren, Renee Geren of Atlanta; Caroline Nettles of Monrovia, CA.; Paul Nettles of Charleston; Katie Pipkin, Jonathan Pipkin and Andrew Russell Pipkin, all of Chester, VA; two step-grandsons, Clark Simpkins, Jr. of Woodruff and Scott Simpkins of Clover. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Geren. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Moncks Corner, 419 W. Main Street, Moncks Corner, SC 29461.
