Esther Longley Smith

Esther M Smith, widow of Robert ‘Bob’ Smith went home to be with the Lord, October 28, 2014. Esther was the eldest daughter born to Thayer & Marguerite Longley on July 9, 1934 in Bakersfield Vermont. As a young girl, she grew up on a dairy farm, graduated nursing school, and later married Bob Smith in Franklin Vermont on April 9, 1954. They were married for 28 years until his untimely death in Jan 1986.

She is survived by five brothers and sisters: Harvey Longley, VA, Amelia Lockhart, MA, Carlton Longley, CT, Leland Longley, NC, and Barbara Lessner, KY; several nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews, and numerous friends who will morn her loss.


She was an avid American Legion member for over 25 years and served as Secretary of the local Cross, SC chapter. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, Cross, SC and loyal supporter of many charities. In addition she was the special friend and caretaker of Mr. DB Lane.

The relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service in honor of Esther’s life Saturday, November 29th, 2014 at Friendship United Methodist Church, Cross, South Carolina at 10 o’clock. The family is being assisted by RUSSELL FUNERAL CAHAPEL, Moncks Corner.
