Dorothy Louise Hall Hadstate

Dorothy L. H. Hadstate, 90, of the Lebanon Community , passed away at Trident Hospital on July 1, 2014, as the result of a massive stroke. She was born June 23, 1924, the second daughter of Frank and Elsie Hall, in Waltham, Massachusetts.

She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Columbia University in New York and embarked on a 50 year nursing career, beginning at Gorgas Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone.

She married Norman Edward Hadstate on February 6, 1949, at Ft. Amador in the Canal Zone, and they had five children. The family transferred to Summerville, SC in 1968.

She was the Occupational Health Supervisor for Santee Cooper and designed and implemented their Occupational Health Program, retiring from Santee Cooper in 1991. Her last and favorite job was Plant Manager Emeritus at the Hollow Tree Nursery in Ridgeville, SC. She loved her family, music, plants and people; she never met a stranger; and she was willing to help anyone, at any time.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 34 years and her sister Florence Zimmer of Arizona.

She is survived by her brother Richard Hall and his wife, Charlotte, of California; three sons, John Hadstate of Nevada, James Hadstate and his wife, Debbie, of Goose Creek, and Robert Hadstate of Connecticut; two daughters, Florence Wootten and her husband ,Robert, of North Carolina and Lisa Hadstate of Ridgeville; a grandson, Dr. James N. Hadstate Jr. and his wife, Amanda, of Goose Creek; a granddaughter Laura L. Little and her husband, David, of South Korea; three great grandchildren Jamie, Jack and Carson Hadstate of Goose Creek.

At Miss Dorothy’s request, there will be no service. She wanted to be remembered by all when seeing the beauty of a perfect rose, or a pink cloud of cherry blossoms, or every time” Tiger Rag” is played, or when humming “When the Saints Go Marching In”.
