David Reed Thompson

David Reed Thompson, 64, of Charleston, South Carolina died on July 10, 2009. Born on September 21, 1944 in Washington, Pennsylvania, Mr Thompson was the son of the late Eleanor Bortz Thompson and William Reed Thompson. He graduated with honors from Woodberry Forest School in Orange, Virginia and was a John Motley Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. After graduation from UNC, Mr. Thompson enlisted in the Marine Corps and served two tours of duty in Vietnam where he was wounded and awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star Combat V. After being discharged from the United States Marine Corps with the rank of Captain, Mr. Thompson graduated from the University of North Carolina Law School.

Throughout much of his adult life he was an active church member, serving as Deacon and Elder both at the First Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro, North Carolina and later at the Mount Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Mr. Thompson also served as Executive Director of the Coastal Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his three children, David Erwin Thompson of Tampa, Florida; Harry Frampton Thompson of Raleigh, North Carolina; Barbara Kalber Thompson Moses of Atlanta, Georgia; and two brothers, William deForest Thompson of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; and George Albert Thompson of Washington, Pennsylvania.

Mr Thompson will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC.

A memorial service will be held for Mr Thompson at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church in Mt Pleasant Saturday July 18th at 2pm. Arrangements by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner.
