Clyde R. Metts, 83 of Givhans, SC, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2014 at Colleton Medical Center, Walterboro, SC, following an extensive stay at the Veterans Victory Nursing Home in Walterboro.
Mr. Metts was born in Moncks Corner on September 17, 1930, the son of the late Oliver S. Metts and Eunice H. Metts.
Following a long and distinguished service career in the United States Army, Major Metts retired from the military and returned to Moncks Corner where he began employment with, and subsequently retired from, The South Carolina Department of Correction.
Clyde was an avid sportsman and is well known for his association with the National Wild Turkey Federation and for his record book accomplishments including The World Slam of Turkey hunting.
He is survived by a son, Clyde Raymond Metts Jr., and his wife Mary of Givhans; a daughter, Deborah Houser of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a sister, Inez M. Petracca of Pinopolis; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers Bobby L. Metts and Dempsey O. Metts.
The Family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Veteran’s Victory Nursing Home for the care and comfort given to Major Metts.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL of Moncks Corner is assisting the family.
