Clara Elizabeth Hinnant Sweatman

Elizabeth Hinnant Sweatman entered into eternal rest on April 29, 2016. She was born June 2, 1926, at Honey Hill, S.C., the daughter of Sadie Martin. She was adopted at the age of three weeks, by Mr. George G. Hinnant and Mrs. Clara Lee Keeter Hinnant, who were surely her God-given parents. They are now deceased.

She graduated from Macedonia High School in June 1944. She returned to school the following year and became the first 12th grade graduate in Berkeley County. She also attended Wytheville Community College, Virginia; she enrolled at the age of 75 at the Galax campus in Galax, Virginia, while she was living there.

She became very active in church work, beginning as a teenager. Teaching Sunday School, acting as organist and pianist, also working in summer bible school as a teacher and also as Bible school director. She also sang in the choir and organized the first choir at Providence Baptist Church.

While her children were in school, she was active in volunteer work at Macedonia School, working as a substitute teacher in the high and elementary schools, also working as a library assistant in the elementary school. She organized a ladies home demonstration club in the Macedonia community, and acted as president of the club for several years.

On September 9, 1950, she married Vernon Marion Sweatman of Holly Hill, S.C. and to this union was born four daughters - Susan Elizabeth "Beth" Fryberger and her husband, Charles, of Burbank, WA;
Sharon Lynn Harvey and husband Robert "Bob" of Moncks Corner, SC; Clara Alice Straughn and her husband, Richard "Rick" of Yadkinville, NC: Jennifer Anne Sadhana of McCall, ID; and one son - Robert Vernon Sweatman of McCall, ID; five grandchildren - Susan Neer; Tammy Robertson; Nancy Vargas; Rhea Straughn; Ricky E. Straughn; ten great grandchildren - Matthew Mason; Cameron Villarreal; Demi Villarreal; Colin Robertson; Jantsen Robertson; Justin Neer; Adam Neer; Dylan Neer; Abby Vargas; and Henry Straughn.

Her funeral service will be held in RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner, at 12 noon Tuesday, May 3, 2016. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday between 10:30 and noon. Entombment will follow in Plantation Memorial Gardens.
