C. Michael Smoak, husband of Beth Easterling Smoak, passed away on December 6, 2024.
Michael was born in Walterboro, South Carolina, on September 10, 1949. He was the son of Carlyle Rice and Leatrice Hudson Smoak. Michael graduated from Walterboro High School in 1968 and attended the Baptist College of Charleston where he was a member of TKA fraternity. He enjoyed a successful career at Santee Cooper, retiring in 2007 after thirty-four years.
He was a long-time member of Trinity Church Pinopolis where he served on the Vestry as Junior Warden as well as other ministries.
Michael enjoyed spending time working in his yard and gardening. He also loved following South Carolina Gamecock sports. He will be remembered for his great personality, and his many friends were very special to him.
Michael was happiest spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his wife of forty-eight years, he is survived by his daughter Kathryn Smoak Nexsen and her husband Josh; his son Michael Carlyle Smoak, Jr. and his wife Samantha; his grandchildren Beth Nexsen, Jay Nexsen, Charlotte Nexsen, Mary Kate Smoak, and Hudson Smoak. He is also survived by his sisters: Delores Thomas and her husband Joe, Judy Bridge and her late husband Jack Bridge, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor Michael’s life will be held on December 12 at 11:00 am at Trinity Church with The Reverend Mary Ellen Doran officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Church, 1915 Pinopolis Road, Pinopolis, SC 29469.
