Billy Joe Hammonds, 77, of Bonneau, U. S. Air Force, Retired Technical Sargeant, husband of Juanita Warren Hammonds, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012, at his home.
Billy Joe was born December 7, 1934, in Marytown, W. VA., the son of Samuel Hammonds and Jewell DeBoard Hammonds.
He was a Viet Nam veteran and a member of the VFW. As an avid NASCAR fan, he traveled to many of the races , supporting his favorite driver, Dale Earnhart. His other favorite activities included bowling, fishing and collecting cars (real and models). He was a member of Bonneau Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother of Waldorf, MD; his wife; a son – Billy Joe Hammonds, Jr., of Bonneau Beach; 4 daughters – Wanda Looman and her husband, Barry, of Bremerton, WA; Cindy Hammonds of Bonneau Beach; Linda Casselman and her husband, Javen, of Jamestown; Sheri Duck and her husband, Calvin, of Bonneau; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a brother – Lindsey Hammonds and his wife, Lena, of Waldorf; 2 sisters – Bertha Stauter of Waldorf; and Linda Weatherford of Atlanta, GA.
A memorial service for Billy Joe will be held in Bonneau Baptist Church, Wednesday afternoon, September 5, 2012, at 3 o’clock, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
