Avrin Floyd

February 19, 1933 — May 30, 2009

Avrin Marvin Floyd, 76, of Moncks Corner, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009, at
Medical University of South Carolina. Born in Motts, S.C., he was the son of the late
Marvin L. Floyd and Janie Lou Bingham Floyd.


Mr. Floyd attended Berkeley High School, and in 1952 he joined the United States Army
and served in the Armour/Tank Divisions. He retired from the United States Army as Chief
Warrant Officer in 1972, after serving his country with honor and distinction for 20 years.
His vast military career included one tour in Korea in 1968 and a tour in Vietnam in 1970, as well
as four tours of duty in Germany. During his military career, he proudly received the Army
Accommodation Medal, the Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement against Hostile
Forces, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Award and numerous certificates of
accomplishment, appreciation and proficiency.


After his military retirement, Mr. Floyd became the owner of Floyd Bros. TV and Appliance
in Moncks Corner, and again retired in 1994 due to severe illness. He was a member of
the Military Officers and VFW Post 9509.


Mr. Floyd is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Gisela E. Floyd; children: Diana Floyd
Murphy, Mike and Glenda Floyd, Michelle and Chris Pawenski, Thomas and Lisa Floyd;
grandchildren: John Gentry IV, Jason and Melissa Gentry, Lauren Moser, Danielle Smolka,
Stephen Murphy, Caison Floyd, Brayden and Collin Floyd, and one great granddaughter,
Brooke Gentry. He is also survived by two brothers; James B. Floyd and Ronald Floyd;
two sisters; Ruth Floyd Ott and Ann Floyd Mack; and sister-in-law, Patricia Floyd; as well as
many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Agnes Floyd
Avant and his brother, Don B. Floyd.


His funeral service will be at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning, June 3, 2009, at RUSSELL FUNERAL
CHAPEL, Moncks Corner. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. Friends may call
at Russell Funeral Chapel from 6 until 8 o'clock Tuesday evening.
