Albert Atkinson

Albert Atkinson, 79, of Moncks Corner, U. S. Air Force, Retired, widower of Joyce Lafay Griggs Atkinson, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013, in a North Charleston hospital.

Mr. Atkinson was born December 22, 1934, at Hartsville, S.C., a son of Albert Atkinson, Sr., and Ola Atkinson.

He was a retired flight engineer from the U.S. Air Force and a retired Rigger from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. A graduate of Hartsville High School, he was a member of the Moncks Corner Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a member of the Lowcountry VW Club and was an avid volunteer with Camp Happy Days.

Surviving are three daughters - Zanell L. Pritchard and her husband, Mike; Cindy L. Thomas and her husband, Olin; and Jo Dale Lydick and her husband, Ralph; a brother - Bobby Atkinson and his wife, Alice, of Myrtle Beach; 5 grandchildren - David and Wesley Beason; Travis Thomas; Aleene and Haley Lydick; 4 great grandchildren - Wesley Scott, Andrew, Jill and Alex Beason.

His funeral service will be held in Moncks Corner Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Thursday morning, May 9, 2013 at 11 o'clock. Interment will be held in Florence National Cemetery directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, MONCKS CORNER. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
