We mourn the passing of a son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend, Robert Gregory Metts. Better known as “Bubba” to most, he was born on December 31st, 1956 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Bobby and Dianne Metts. His father was an officer in the Air Force and the family traveled every few years as a result of his military assignments but did their best to return home to South Carolina where his parent’s families resided in Moncks Corner and Summerville.
As a youngster, Bubba developed a love of drawing and working with his hands. His father’s transfer to Southern California is where he fell in love with the beaches and surfing. This continued when he returned to South Carolina and enjoyed the natural beauty of the woods, the lakes through water skiing, fishing, scuba diving in the canals, and taking his surfing skills to the coast.
He attended Berkeley High School in Moncks Corner and went on to work as an electrician. His ability with all things mechanical came in handy many times repairing and maintaining his various automobiles including his favorite, a sleek, burgundy Datsun 240Z.
Bubba enjoyed his role as an uncle to his niece and nephews as well as his relationship with his extended family. He was generally a very private person and in his later years preferred an independent life. He spoke by phone frequently with his sister and mother who live in Southern California and developed a strong, personal bond with his Christian faith which helped him through difficult times.
There are many details about the people and places that made up the tapestry that was Bubba’s life, but the important things are the simple ones, Bubba Metts spent his life trying to be kind and earn the love and respect of those he cared for. He will be missed by those left behind and is wished true peace and comfort in the embrace of his family who now welcomes him in heaven.
Surviving is his mother, Dianne A. Margolis of Chino Hills, CA; a brother, Richard "Ricky" Metts and his wife, Theresa of Moncks Corner, SC; a sister, Melissa M. Lamb, and her husband, Dana of Chino Hills, CA, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Bobby Leroy Metts.
His memorial service will be held at Russell Funeral Chapel on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 11 o'clock.
