Clarice McCutchen Mercer, lovingly known as Clarice, passed away on March 4, 2024, at the age of 79 in Charleston, S.C. She was born on January 29, 1945, in Kingstree, S.C., a daughter of James Willard and Mildred McClary McCutchen. She was the widow of Blakeley Durant Mercer, to whom she was married for 57 years.
Clarice's life was enriched by her devoted children, Angelia Mercer Baker and her husband, Bob, and Jeffrey Blakeley Mercer and his wife, Crystal. She was also the sister to Justine Matthews, Cynthia Robinson(Bobby) and Charlene McKenzie(Joe). Her love extended to her adored grandchildren – Chelsea Fulton and her husband Tayler, Blake Baker and his wife Erica, Macyn Page Baker, Brandon Mercer and his wife Marissa, and Travis Mercer and his wife Desirae – as well as her cherished great-grandchildren Lachlan Fulton, Sullivan Fulton, Sierra (SiSi) Baker, and Sawyer Mercer. Clarice was predeceased by her loving sisters Carol Gandy and Darlene Miles.
A dedicated computer programmer, Clarice committed 28 years to J.W. Aluminum. She had a passion for music and an indulgence in sweets. Sundays were especially dear to Clarice, who relished in a tradition known among family and friends as "Sister Sunday Afternoon."
The family requests memorial donations be made in Clarice's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
